The eighth series has been officially announced to premiere on BBC1 at 9pm on Friday, 6 January 2012. Creator Tony Jordan revealed that this will mark the final season for an unspecified period, with the existing cast also set to conclude their roles. Guest appearances will feature notable actors including Sheila Hancock, Martin Kemp, and Paterson Joseph. Additionally, Peter Polycarpou and John Barrowman confirmed via Twitter their participation as guest stars. This season represents the third filmed in Birmingham, the fifth produced in HD, and the fourth featuring the entire current cast. Adrian Lester will direct an episode centered around Mickey's kidnapping. Other storylines will involve the Doctor's team confronting the world of slimming pills and executing a high-stakes gold heist. Jaime Murray will return for the final episode, reprise her role in the series' concluding installment.
